Using salvaged materials

Of course, there might be disadvantages to using salvaged materials. It could take considerable time and money to restore that antique mantel. And it comes with no guarantees and no assembly instructions. Nevertheless, you also get the joy of knowing you are preserving a small piece of unique architectural history — and you know that the refurbished mantle is not like anything being manufactured today.
